PORTUGAL Yoga Pavilion (concept)

This modern yet rustic design uses a combination of precise laminated bamboo lumber and natural bamboo poles with their extremely low embodied energy. The simple rhythms of structure become the spine of the project, grounding it to its site. With its linear solar-adorned pergola, the pavilion becomes grafted into its undulating hillside environment. The soaring roof angle is set in opposition to the terrain's natural slope, which opens to the amazing views down to the valley. A secondary sustainable initiative included the extensive use of water treatment ponds to act as natural air conditioning. These ponds have several purposes, cooling the microclimate, treating wastewater, storing rainwater, and creating a tranquil, serene backdrop.
